DISCUSSION: Lines 32-33 say that few historians read the original Latin works.
___________
- The author never compared science to theology. They were just examples of disciplines with important Latin works.
- Lines 32-33 say that some translations were made. But it is that its usually better to read the original than a translation, and there may be some important works that haven’t been translated.
- CORRECT. Scholars who know Latin can’t understand the technical subject matter. Scholars who understand science can’t read Latin. So few people can read scientific books written in Latin.
- Huh? This could be true, but it’s never mentioned. It seems just as likely that English university students studied other subjects apart from science. They probably studied older books.
- Lines 35-37 say that scholars underestimate how much the English influenced writers in Europe. It sounds like many scientific books were written in Latin, in England, during the Renaissance.
