DISCUSSION: The first two paragraphs are most relevant. We know that temperate zones are above the tropics.
(e.g. the US northeast coast is temperate)
And we know that the same habitat (e.g. a grassland) will have more species if it is closer to the equator.
___________
- We can’t compare different habitats. We can only compare a forest to another forest.
- We’re never told that ice ages “severely” interrupted all temperate habitats. Lines 13-15 suggest that some temperate habitats were not affected very much by ice ages.
- Lines 22-24 suggest that biomass and species density don’t always go hand in hand.
- CORRECT. This is well supported by lines 1-4.
- We know this is more likely in the tropics (lines 57-61) according to one of the theories mentioned in the passage. But more likely is not the same thing as likely.
This has nothing to do with temperate grasslands.
