DISCUSSION: Read lines 50-51, directly after “advances” are mentioned. The “advances” are listed.

They are all structural changes in the piano: pedals, cords, frame, etc.

We have no idea whether these structural changes led to musical changes.

1. The passage never even mentions manufacturers, or why musicians buy certain pianos.
2. CORRECT. All the advances listed on lines 50-51 are structural.
3. The innovation was in the structure of the piano, and not necessarily in the music produced for that instrument.
4. Read lines 50-51. They only talk about innovations to the piano. Any stylistic innovations in the music produced for pianos would have come later.
5. We know Beethoven responded to the advances. We don’t know if any other musicians changed their opinions.
