DISCUSSION: Read lines 50-51, directly after “advances” are mentioned. The “advances” are listed.
They are all structural changes in the piano: pedals, cords, frame, etc.
We have no idea whether these structural changes led to musical changes.
___________
- The passage never even mentions manufacturers, or why musicians buy certain pianos.
- CORRECT. All the advances listed on lines 50-51 are structural.
- The innovation was in the structure of the piano, and not necessarily in the music produced for that instrument.
- Read lines 50-51. They only talk about innovations to the piano. Any stylistic innovations in the music produced for pianos would have come later.
- We know Beethoven responded to the advances. We don’t know if any other musicians changed their opinions.
