QUESTION TEXT: Anthropologist: Violence is an extreme form of…
QUESTION TYPE:Must be True – Exception
FACTS:
- Violence is extreme aggression.
- Violence and self-expression sufficient for survival are different, normally.
- Our culture conditions us to react to some unpleasant things with violence.
ANALYSIS: On this type of question, the best strategy is to know the facts well, and eliminate the wrong answers using the passage.
Note that answer choice B says “required for survival” while the stimulus said “sufficient”.
It’s a complete logical reversal. It’s rare that happens unintentionally on the LSAT.
I don’t know if they meant to do that, but it makes the answer choice even less supported. We don’t know anything about self expression “required for survival”.
___________
- If violence is an extreme form of violence, then presumably some less extreme forms of aggression are not violent.
- CORRECT. We know that self-expression sufficient (not required) for survival is different from violence. But we don’t know whether it’s different from aggression.
- This is the last sentence. Our violent reactions to stimuli are caused by our culture.
- This is supported by the second half of the first sentence. Normally, self-expression without violence is sufficient for survival.
- The last sentence supports this. We’re conditioned to respond violently to unpleasant stimuli.
