1. Tempting, but no one said that dolphins don’t live near P. brevis. The researchers just said that the algae can kill dolphins, if the algae blooms into a massive red tide.
2. We’re never told if there are PCBs in the Gulf of Mexico.
3. CORRECT. The researchers said that massive P. brevis blooms (red tides) killed the dolphins off the Atlantic coast. If this is true, then it seems strange that red tides in the Gulf of Mexico don’t kill dolphins.
4. We’re never told whether the Gulf of Mexico is polluted.
5. The author wants to weaken the argument that algae killed the dolphins.
