This tests your knowledge of rule two. If we have new pop, we must have both types of soul. So if we don’t have one type of soul then we must not have new pop.
(Scroll down for diagrams + explanation)
I’ve circled what we can conclude from the diagram.
You could also have figured out this question directly from rule 2. But that’s risky to rely on. The correct answer could also have been “at least one type of jazz is on sale.”
E is CORRECT.
A and B are wrong; we know nothing about rap. We can only read our diagram left to right, and rap is to the left of soul (when soul is out).
C is wrong because there are no rules about used opera. It can be in or out.
D is wrong. We know one type of jazz is in. That doesn’t mean one type of jazz has to be out.

Alright I understand why the right answer choice is E, however, what I am confused about is A being wrong. You’ve explained that the reason A is wrong is because we know nothing about New Rap since it is on the left side of the diagram and we can’t go backwards but that only applies if you are looking at rule #5 “if either type of rap is on sale, then no soul is”, However, the reason I put A as the correct answer is because rule #3 “if both types of jazz are on sale, then no rap is”….
In my diagram in my out section I have On (since its part of rule 1) than I add Sn
Looking at Rule #2 having Sn out would puts Pn out at well, now at this point I have the following in my Out group (On Sn Pn), Now since Pn is out I have to have Jn IN because I am following rule #4 which is “if both types of jazz is on sale then new pop is”… not Jn–> Pn which converts into not Pn—>Jn
If Jn is in my IN group than that pushes Rn & Ru OUT following rule #3
The answer choice A states “new rap is not on sale” which is true…. a must be true. This question basically has two must be true answers.
where am I going wrong?
Thank you in advance

No new pop leads to ONE type of jazz being in. The other type of jazz could be out.
The jazz/rap rule only happens if we know that BOTH types of jazz are in
Did I miss something? You seem to have only shown one type of jazz would be in.
