Hey Graeme,
I believe the best approach to this game is to split up front. Reading the stimulus, mapping the rules, and splitting for all possible diagrams took me two and a half minutes. Well worth the time I think (it was my first time seeing this game and I’d hardly call myself excellent at logic games — so I’m sure this could all be done in under two minutes).
