DISCUSSION: The third paragraph mentions that Nisa’s experience tells us about women in general.
The passage doesn’t tell us how Nisa’s experience lets us learn about women in general. It’s not obvious that the issues faces by a !Kung woman are faced by all women.
Since we’re working with a blank slate, almost any answer could work. When that happens, just keep your mind open for something that would achieve the goal of informing us about women.
___________
- Sympathy with someone is not the same thing as being similar to them.
- This has very complex wording. It means describing someone’s experience, and using that experience to gain insight. It only mentions using that insight to study issues in non-Western society. We don’t know if this will help us study ‘women in general’. Also, the fact that this answer mentions men shows us that it’s off track.
- The feminists are applauding the use of the dialogue technique, not Shostak’s work itself. We don’t know if the feminists think Nisa teaches us about all women. Also, it’s not clear if these feminists are a relevant authority.
- CORRECT. This shows that Nisa’s experiences are relevant outside of her own culture. So it might be true that her experiences are relevant for women in all cultures.
- This only shows that Nisa’s experiences are relevant to !Kung women in. We want to know if Nisa’s experiences are relevant to women in all cultures.
