  1. Roy Lichtenstein helped create pop art by using comic book styles in fine art. His work mocked the art world but also explored serious ideas beyond simple parody.
  2. Lichtenstein’s comic-style paintings were not immediately seen as serious art. His work challenged later abstract expressionism by using simple lines and bright colors to focus on everyday images.
  3. Lichtenstein’s work had depth that went beyond cartoons. It had realism; his comics were reflections of his reality. But Lichtenstein’s work was earnest, not jaded.
