LR Question 6 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Engineer: Some people argue that the world’s energy…

QUESTION TYPE: Main Point

CONCLUSION: It is nonsense to think that the world’s energy problems could be solved by mining the moon for helium-3.

REASONING: We could only use helium-3 if we had fusion reactors. But those are at least 50 years away. If we haven’t solved our energy problems by then…we never will.

ANALYSIS: This is a good argument. The main point is that helium-3 won’t solve our energy problem. It would take too long.

___________

  1. This is true according to the stimulus but it isn’t the main point.
  2. The main point is that helium-3 isn’t the solution to our energy problem.
  3. Fusion reactors won’t arrive before 50 years. That’s too late to solve our energy problem according to this stimulus.
  4. CORRECT. Yes. Even if it were possible it would take more than 50 years. That’s too long.
  5. This is true but it isn’t the main point. The main point is that helium-3 won’t work because it won’t be ready until at least 50 years in the future.
