LR Question 24 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: The United States ranks far behind countries such as…

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

FACTS:

  1. The USA has more dangerous workplaces than Canada and Sweden.
  2. Canada and Sweden countries mandate joint safety boards for each medium and large sized workplace, which has been very successful.
  3. The USA doesn’t require such boards.

ANALYSIS: All we really know is that joint-safety committees established by law can improve safety. We’re told the boards have been very successful.

___________

  1. CORRECT. The boards have reduced injuries in Canada and Sweden and so they would likely reduce injuries in America if required by law.
  2. We have no idea. A voluntary committee might be ideal, if we could convince every company to create one.
  3. This, we don’t know. We only know that joint safety committees have helped.
  4. We have no idea what happened before the laws were passed.
  5. Maybe? There might be other factors in Canada and Sweden that contribute to improved safety.
