LSAT Preptest 103 explanations

LR Question 19 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Sponges attach to the ocean floor, continually…

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

FACTS:

  1. Tubular and vase shaped sponges live in slow-moving waters. They don’t do well in strong currents.
  2. Those sponges were very common during the Jurassic.

ANALYSIS: Presumably, many waters during the Jurassic were slow moving.

You can safely ignore most of the information in this densely written stimulus.

It can be a good idea to read this sort of question twice. On the second read, see what you can combine to make a deduction.

___________

  1. We have no idea. The sponges may have lived before and after the Jurassic.
  2. Same as A. We have no idea how common sponges were in other eras.
  3. CORRECT. If this weren’t true then those sponges couldn’t have been “widespread.” They only do well in slow-moving waters.
  4. We have no idea where other types of sponges can live.
  5. We don’t know. The stimulus doesn’t tell us this.

Recap: The question begins with “Sponges attach to the ocean floor, continually”. It is a Most Strongly Supported question. Learn how to master LSAT MSS questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
