LSAT 103 | Section 1 | Logical Reasoning: Q25

LSAT Preptest 103 explanations

LR Question 25 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Handwriting analysis should be banned in court…

QUESTION TYPE: Method of Reasoning

ARGUMENTS: Sasha argues that handwriting analysis should be banned because handwriting analysts often exaggerate.

Gregor thinks the problem could be solved with a licensing board to guarantee quality analysis.

ANALYSIS: Gregor’s method is to agree there is a problem but propose an alternate solution.

The correct answer is really hard to understand, so I’ll make it less abstract. Gregor restricts the class of handwriting analysis considered eligible to be heard in court. Now, only analysts governed by a board should be listened to.

___________

  1. Gregor agrees with all of Sasha’s evidence. But he adds new evidence that challenges Sasha’s conclusion.
  2. CORRECT. The principle is: handwriting analysis should be used in courtrooms. The class was: all handwriting analysis. Gregor now restricts it to: only handwriting analysis governed by a professional board.
  3. What specific evidence did Gregor give? He’s speaking in general terms.
  4. Gregor accepts all of Sasha’s evidence.
  5. Gregor doesn’t accuse Sasha of exaggerating. He agrees that handwriting analysis is currently a problem.
