LSAT Preptest 103 explanations

LR Question 7 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: The cumbersome spears that were the principal weapons…

QUESTION TYPE: Strengthen

CONCLUSION: The archaeologists think that late Bronze Age people had invented more deadly weapons.

REASONING: Heavy spears used in the early Bronze Age meant that it was hard for many people to die in wars. But tombs in the late Bronze Age show many people died in wars.

ANALYSIS: This is an ok argument. We can strengthen it by showing that some new type of weapon was used. Answers A-D don’t even talk about weapons.

___________

  1. This shows that people used spears in the early Bronze Age. But we already knew that.
  2. This doesn’t tell us what weapons were used when those prisoners were captured.
  3. This has nothing to do with what weapons were used in the late Bronze Age.
  4. What kind of weapons? This doesn’t tell us if people invented a new weapon that wasn’t a spear.
  5. CORRECT. Sounds like people developed arrows, and then died from arrows. A new type of weapon could lead to the many deaths observed in the late Bronze Age.

Recap: The question begins with “The cumbersome spears that were the principal weapons”. It is a Strengthen question. Learn how to master LSAT Strengthen questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
