LSAT Preptest 101 explanations

RC Question 17 Explanation

DISCUSSION: “Time theory” is the first theory, presented in the second paragraph. It says that the tropics haven’t been frequently disrupted by ice ages, and so species had more time to develop.

___________

  1. CORRECT. The time theory said disruptions were the main cause of the lack of species. So without disruptions, presumably more species could develop.
  2. Time theory didn’t make any predictions about whether there would be ice ages in the future (none of the theories made any definite predictions about the future).
  3. If there are no more ice ages, then time theory would predict that more species would develop. But there’s no reason to expect that temperate forests will become like the tropics – it’s too cold for that to happen, even without an ice age.
  4. Time theory didn’t say how many species remain to be found in any region. The fact that there are more species in the tropics does not mean that there are more species to be found there.
  5. Same as B. Time theory tells us what will happen during an ice age, but time theory hasn’t predicted whether there will be an ice age.
