LSAT 101 | Section 4 | Reading Comprehension: Q27

LSAT Preptest 101 explanations

RC Question 27 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The question is worded strangely. We’re looking for something Eltis disagrees with.

The first half of Eltis paragraph argues against the idea that British ideals led to abolition.

___________

  1. Eltis never says whether the masses supported abolition.
  2. Lines 54-56 show that Eltis thinks the slave colonies were still viable.
  3. CORRECT. Lines 30-35 show that Eltis didn’t think the British tradition of liberty was particularly strong.
  4. Eltis never mentions literacy.
  5. Lines 25-28 show that the author thinks there was little opposition in the House of Lords.

But Eltis might not agree, or he might point out there was opposition from another source. (The slave owners in the colonies probably objected to abolition, for example).
