LR Question 6 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: As symbols of the freedom of the wilderness, bald eagles…

QUESTION TYPE: Main Point

ANALYSIS: This passage clearly values conservation of endangered species in general. But it makes the good point that people care more about charismatic species such as eagles. So its main point is that the bald eagle must be conserved so that public will continue to care about protecting less popular species.

If there are no popular species then the public may stop caring about conservation altogether.

___________

  1. The argument is broader than this. Eagles are popular because they symbolize freedom. This popularity allows eagles to serve as motivators for the cause of conservation in general.
  2. CORRECT. Yes. If eagles aren’t conserved, then it will be impossible to protect less popular species.
  3. The passage was much broader than this. This answer doesn’t even mention eagles.
  4. Same as C.
  5. This is true, but the passage was broader. Because of this sympathy eagles can be used to spur on other conservation efforts.
