LSAT 104 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q9

LSAT Preptest 104 explanations

RC Question 9 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Lines 14-16 mention the Florentine guild. They warned their members not to discipline other members.

This is an example of the previous sentence, which said that some guilds tried to cripple disciplinary proceedings.

___________

  1. No theory comes afterwards. The passage goes on to talk about how few lawyers started disciplinary action.
  2. CORRECT. When a passage asks you to look at a specific line, always read a bit above and below that line for context.

Here, the words “for example” should have tipped you off that the Florentine guild was an example of something mentioned earlier.
  3. Which method? I have no idea what this could refer to.

Also, you can’t show a method was universal by giving one local example (Florence).
  4. There was no argument mentioned earlier. There was an expectation (that guilds would enforce discipline), but argument to that effect.
  5. Which thesis? Which objection? If you can’t identify what these terms refer to, then the answer isn’t right.

The author is not arguing against anyone. He’s making an argument that canon lawyers’ guilds didn’t enforce discipline, but he has no opponent to argue against.
