LSAT Preptest 21 explanations

LR Question 12 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: In a study of the relationship between aggression and…

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

FACTS:

1. Aggression seemed more strongly linked to parenting style than to amount of TV watched.

ANALYSIS: This question challenges some people’s assumptions. Some people reading this think that TV causes aggression. But this stimulus doesn’t show a strong link between TV and aggression.

In fact, we have no evidence that TV can cause aggression. It might even reduce it.

Parenting style seems to be a stronger factor (though it’s only a correlation).

___________

  1. This is only true for children of aggressive parents.
  2. CORRECT. This is true. You also have to consider how aggressive the parents are.
  3. We don’t know: we’re not told what would happen if competitive parents focussed more on their children. Maybe it’s the parents’ competitive nature that makes their children aggressive.
  4. In this study, high levels of TV were associated with low aggression. We have no idea if TV does or does not cause aggression.
  5. We can conclude the opposite. Parental lifestyle seemed more important than the amount of TV watched.

Recap: The question begins with “In a study of the relationship between aggression and”. It is a Most Strongly Supported question. Learn more about LSAT MSS questions in our guide to LSAT Logical Reasoning question types.
