LSAT Preptest 21 explanations

LR Question 18 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Prolonged exposure to nonionizing radiation-electromagnetic…

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

FACTS:

  1. You’re more likely to get soft-tissue cancer if you’re exposed to non-iodizing radiation over the long term.
  2. Electric appliances are sources of non-iodizing radiation.

ANALYSIS: The wrong answers all talk about things we have no information about. The right answer combines the two sentences above. If non-iodizing radiation is a cancer risk, then devices that produce that radiation increase your risk of cancer.

___________

  1. We don’t know. Long term exposure is a risk, but we’re not told whether short term exposure is also a risk.
  2. We have no idea which cancers are most common.
  3. We have no idea how to cure cancer, unfortunately.
  4. CORRECT. Electric blankets and other appliances can all increase the risk of soft-tissue cancer, because they produce non-iodizing radiation.
  5. There could be other causes of soft-tissue cancers.

Recap: The question begins with “Prolonged exposure to nonionizing radiation-electromagnetic”. It is a Most Strongly Supported question. Learn more about LSAT MSS questions in our guide to LSAT Logical Reasoning question types.
