DISCUSSION: The third paragraph introduces an objection to the abiogenic theory. Then the abiogenic theorists are allowed to make a plausible rebuttal to the objection.

This paragraph strengthens the theory, by showing it can respond to criticism.

1. There’s no internal contradiction in the opposing view. The abiogenisists must point to external evidence to rebut the criticism.
2. CORRECT. “Countervailing” evidence means evidence that helps the abiogenisists respond to the criticism.
3. The author never revises any views of abiogenisis.
4. The author never says the criticism is correct. By letting the abiogenisists respond, the author implies the criticism may not be accurate.
5. There are no arguments against multiple theories. Only abiogenisis is argued against.
