DISCUSSION: Lines 55-56 mention this. A married woman (not yet widowed) could hold power if her husband was away at war.
Note that this question is not asking about widows.
___________
- The Magna Carta only gave widows the right to their dowers without paying a fine (lines 34-38). It didn’t let women manage their husbands’ estates while the husband was living.
- Inheritance explains how women could get land. It doesn’t explain how they could control their husband’s land while the husband was alive.
- Customarily, a husband would control his lands. We’re looking for a situation where a woman takes over her husband’s customary duties over the land.
- CORRECT. Lines 55-56 mention this. If a husband was away at war, his wife could control his land.
- Jointure only affected who would get land upon the husband’s death (lines 38-41).
