LSAT 23 | Section 4 | Reading Comprehension: Q3

LSAT Preptest 23 explanations

RC Question 3 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Alpers said that Rembrandt was only motivated by money and entrepreneurship.

The author disagrees. They claim aesthetics were important to Rembrandt.

In lines 51-54 the author mentions Rembrandt’s aesthetic influences to give us an example of something that Alpers has incorrectly ignored. The word “say,” indicates an example.

___________

  1. The author only says Alpers has neglected to do this.
  2. The author implies that the style of Claudius Civilis may have been unique. It was the result of Rembrandt’s deep meditations on aesthetics.
  3. Alpers ignores aesthetic influences. That’s why the author disagrees with Alpers.
  4. Line 53 suggests that Haarlem was also important. In any case, these influences were just given an example of something Alpers ignored.
  5. CORRECT. Alpers ignored aesthetics, which were very important to Rembrandt. This is emphasized again in the conclusion, lines 55-58. There was more to Rembrandt than marketing.
