LSAT 23 | Section 4 | Reading Comprehension: Q9

LSAT Preptest 23 explanations

RC Question 9 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The second paragraph describes the various ways that a widow could gain wealth and power.

Three of the wrong answers talk about events. There were no events mentioned in the first two paragraphs. The Magna Carta was a document, not an event.

The signing of the Magna Carta is an example of an event.

The passing of the jointure law of 1272 would be another example of an event, but the passage doesn’t mention how the law was passed. It only mentions the effects of the new law.

___________

  1. There are no specific events mentioned, except maybe a legal reform in 1272. But we’re not told what event led to that reform.
  2. There’s no sequence of events. There aren’t even any events mentioned. A date such as 1215 is not an event.
  3. CORRECT. The first paragraph mentioned that widows could acquire wealth and influence. The second paragraph explains how.
  4. There’s no event mentioned in the first paragraph.
  5. The medievalists are mentioned in the first paragraph. But the second paragraph doesn’t mention them or their arguments.
