LR Question 10 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: The Board of Trustees of the Federici Art Museum has decided to…

QUESTION TYPE: Weaken

CONCLUSION: Selling the paintings won’t lower the quality of the museum’s collection.

REASONING: The museum has some inferior paintings by Renoir and Cezanne.

ANALYSIS: We need to find some reason why selling the paintings will lower the quality of the museum’s collection.

It’s often quite interesting to see an artist’s early work: it shows you they weren’t always a master painter.

___________

  1. So? This doesn’t weaken the conclusion that we can sell paintings without lowering the quality of the collection.
  2. CORRECT. If this is true, then the collection’s quality will take a hit if we sell the inferior paintings. They help show the progression of Renoir and Cezanne’s work from novices to master artists.
  3. It doesn’t matter what critics thought at the time. It only matters whether the paintings have useful qualities, now.
  4. Inflation? We don’t care about art prices. The conclusion is about the quality of the museum’s collection.
  5. Same as D. We don’t care about prices, we only care about the quality of the museum’s collection.
