DISCUSSION: We need to find a way to test whether the pigeons are reading the minds of the researchers.
There are a few possible methods. One would be to send drivers who didn’t know where “home” was. Another would be to deliver the pigeons by machine.
The wrong answers don’t block the possibility of mind reading, and they don’t prevent the handlers from knowing where “home” is.
___________
- CORRECT. This eliminates the possibility that the pigeons could read any useful information from the handlers’ minds.
- If pigeons can read minds, then it shouldn’t matter whether we treat them nicely. They’ll know our thoughts either way.
- Mind-reading doesn’t depend on speech.
- As long as the handlers knew where “home” was, the pigeons could still get all the information they needed by mind-reading.
- If you expose a mind-reader to unfamiliar sights, they probably can still read your mind.
