LSAT 106 | Section 4 | Reading Comprehension: Q6

LSAT Preptest 106 explanations

RC Question 6 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The main idea is that there is new debate over how much volcano dust cools the Earth.

___________

  1. Nonsense. The researchers in the final paragraph say that regional effects may be significant

(lines 38-41), but they never say the effects will be larger than we thought.

Also, this ignores almost all of the passage.
  2. No one says this. The scientists in the last paragraph imply that regional variations may be larger than global variations.
  3. Mass and Portman say that the global effect is weaker. And the scientists in the final paragraph only say that the regional effect may still be strong.
  4. CORRECT. This covers both Mass and Portman’s critique and the rebuttal which says that eruptions might still greatly affect regional temperatures.
  5. This only covers Mass and Portman’s argument. It ignores the rebuttal in paragraph four.
