LSAT Preptest 3 explanations

LR Question 24 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Anthropologists assert that cultures advance only when…

QUESTION TYPE: Complete the Argument

ANALYSIS: This is an argument by analogy, and not a bad one. Cultures can only advance when they are independent, when outsiders can no longer force them to do as they say. Outsiders can give advice, but change must come from within a culture.

If we view individual school as cultures that must progress, then the logical conclusion of the argument is that individual schools must be free of outside imposition. They must be allowed to be independent.

___________

  1. CORRECT. Only if schools are free of outside imposition can they become independent and progress.
  2. The logical conclusion is that all schools require independence from outside imposition.
  3. Perhaps. What school officials really need to do is avoid imposing their views on individual schools.
  4. Outsiders can still give advice, they don’t have to be fully prevented from participation.
  5. We don’t know this. Independence is a necessary condition for advancement, but that doesn’t mean it is the only factor or the most important factor.
