LR Question 7 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Those who participate in local politics include people…

QUESTION TYPE: Must be True

ANALYSIS: We know that some people who participate in local politics are interested in public service and some are selfish opportunists.

There could be other people who are neither. We don’t know that all people in politics fall into one of the two groups.

We do know that all people who participate in politics influence the community’s values. This includes those who are selfish and those who are interested in public service.

___________

  1. CORRECT. This must be true since everyone who participates in politics influences the values of the community and some selfish people participate in politics.
  2. This could be true if they don’t participate in politics. But it doesn’t have to be true.
  3. This is an incorrect reversal. There could be people who influence community values even if they don’t participate in politics, such as business or religious leaders.
  4. This could be true but it doesn’t have to be true. It could be true that all people in politics are in one of those two groups.
  5. If C isn’t right, this certainly isn’t correct. There could be many other people who influence the values of the community apart from those two groups.

Recap: The question begins with “Those who participate in local politics include people”. It is a Must be True question. Learn how to master LSAT MBT questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
