LSAT 110 | Section 4 | Reading Comprehension: Q9

LSAT Preptest 110 explanations

RC Question 9 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Reread lines 27-29. And remember that on this type of question, there is almost certainly one line that gives you the answer, with 100% certainty.

Your job on this type of question is to find that line. It is your only job. Your job is not to look at the answer choices, until you’ve found that line.

Then you can look at the answer choices, and see which one best matches the line. Rivier says the influence of supernatural forces give the plays their tragic drama.

___________

  1. The passage doesn’t say anything like this in the second paragraph. And lines 31-35 show that the protagonists know they have constraints.
  2. Show me where Rivier says heroism belongs to the gods. (There’s not much else to say about this type of answer choice. It simply isn’t in the passage. Nonsense like this shows why you should find the answer first, then look at the answer choices)
  3. The second paragraph doesn’t say anything about whether the protagonist is right or wrong. They haven’t much liberty: they are under constraints imposed by the gods.
  4. CORRECT. This is a hard answer choice, but it’s right. Lines 27-28 say that divine forces give the dramas tragedy. The rest of the paragraph talks about how they constrain heroes. So every choice the heroes make is influenced by the gods. i.e. divine compulsion.
  5. The second paragraph doesn’t say responsibility or use any word that means responsibility.
