LSAT Preptest 110 explanations

RC Question 18 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Scientists were able to make cell walls disappear without removing genes. They just changed how genes interacted.

___________

  1. We’re not told if it’s possible to reverse the loss of cell walls.
  2. This might be true, but in paragraph 2 no gene was introduced. The change was done without removing or adding any genes.
  3. CORRECT. One bacterium lost its cell wall, then passed that on to its offspring. In the end, many bacteria were without cell walls.
  4. We’re never told if it’s possible to prevent the further loss of cell walls.
  5. We’re not told if horizontal transmission is possible. This was an example of vertical transmission, from parent bacterium to child bacteria.
