LSAT 112 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q10

LSAT Preptest 112 explanations

RC Question 10 Explanation

DISCUSSION: Those writers are famous, and the works they wrote in English are famous. Everyone has heard of Shakespeare. Most people believe Shakespeare to be one of the greatest playwrights of all history.

Lines 4-6 say that these famous authors aren’t the only important authors of the English Renaissance. This is a bit shocking, given how important we think Shakespeare is.

___________

  1. Huh? The passage doesn’t mention non-fiction, or “imaginative” works, whatever that means. Reread the relevant section of the passage first, and you’ll never be tempted by this type of nonsense answer.
  2. The passage never said that Shakespeare didn’t revolutionize Western thought. They just said that other Renaissance authors were also important.
  3. Look all you want through lines 1-6. This simply isn’t mentioned there. Don’t choose nonsense answers. This phrase was mentioned in line 35: the passage is trying to trick your brain into remembering something it saw in a different place.
  4. CORRECT. Most people think of Shakespeare as the leading figure of the English Renaissance, and that’s why the passage mentioned him. It’s surprising to hear that there are English Latin works as important as Shakespeare’s plays.
  5. The Latin writings of these authors (if they had any) aren’t mentioned. Line 4 says they wrote in English.
