LSAT 112 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q23

LSAT Preptest 112 explanations

RC Question 23 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The author seems somewhat hopeful; they never say the new system is a bad idea. But they are aware that there are many difficulties involved in switching legal systems.

___________

  1. If this were true, then the passage likely would have said that the new system should be abandoned.
  2. Same as A.
  3. Doubtful. Why would someone write a whole article about something they didn’t care about? The article seems well researched and written with care.
  4. CORRECT. The author seems to like the new system, but they emphasize that there will be some difficulty.
  5. The entire passage says how hard everything will be. That hardly shows complete confidence in the new system.

Are there any lines in the passage that hint at the author’s opinion. After reading the passage, I never really saw anything in terms of how they feel towards the subject matter. They gave as much of an objective point of view as one could in my opinion. The lack of opinion was what made me choose answer choice C.

Plenty. Look for adjectives and adverbs. The author discusses how extraordinary the new changes are, for example, and the difficulties. So they have some optimism but also know there will be challenges.
