LSAT 114 | Section 3 | Reading Comprehension: Q21

LSAT Preptest 114 explanations

RC Question 21 Explanation

DISCUSSION: The main point is that medical students could develop more empathy if they read ethical stories.

___________

  1. CORRECT. This is a mouthful, but it’s a fancy way of saying what I said in the box above.
  2. This goes too far. Lines 17-19 say that traditional ethics courses can be useful. The author’s objection is that narrative training would be even more useful. You could use both traditional classes and ethical narratives.
  3. Not at all. The passage is talking in general terms. Some medical students may already have enough empathy and ethics to treat patients even if they don’t get any extra training. And the author’s main focus is on narrative training. They don’t think the other types are as important.
  4. The passage never says that narrative ethical training is becoming popular. And the ethical situations aren’t necessarily complex. But medical students are so busy that even simple ethical situations might cause trouble for them.
  5. Lines 60-62 make clear that doctors will still use moral principles. The author just wants them to be more flexible and empathetic.
