LSAT Preptest 4 explanations

LR Question 19 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: The efficiency of microwave ovens in destroying the harmful…

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

ANALYSIS: If salt is added before food is cooked in a microwave oven then bacteria that cause food poisoning are more likely to survive. The salt lowers the internal temperature of the food being cooked. That is all we know.

___________

  1. The stimulus doesn’t mention where bacteria are found. Those inside are more likely to survive if the food is salted, but we know no more.
  2. We don’t know. Perhaps ovens have other flaws that make them less safe than microwaves.
  3. The key here is that it is talking about food that “has been cooked” [already]. Salt only preserves bacteria if it is added before the food is cooked.
  4. CORRECT. Yes. Salt keeps harmful bacteria alive, so reducing it can reduce dangers.
  5. We have no idea. There might be other dangers that are much worse.

Recap: The question begins with “The efficiency of microwave ovens in destroying the harmful”. It is a Most Strongly Supported question. Learn how to master LSAT MSS questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
