LSAT Preptest 4 explanations

LR Question 6 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: You are too old to address effectively the difficult…

QUESTION TYPE: Method of Reasoning

ANALYSIS: This is taken from the presidential debate between Ronald Reagan and Walter Mondale. Sims (Reagan) sidestepped the issue of whether he was too old and mocked Rotelle (Mondale) for being too young!

It was a clever move.

___________

  1. He did not. He switched the issue to Rotelle’s age.
  2. He mentioned Rotelle’s age.
  3. Show me where he said that. His whole response was to mock Rotelle.
  4. How so? He didn’t even say Rotelle’s statement was wrong. He just claimed that Rotelle was also of an inappropriate age.
  5. CORRECT. Technically, this is what Sims did. He sidestepped the issue. If someone makes an insulting claim about you it’s often better to counter-insult than to respond directly.

Recap: The question begins with “You are too old to address effectively the difficult”. It is a Method of Reasoning question. Learn more about LSAT Method of Reasoning questions in our guide to LSAT Logical Reasoning question types.
