LSAT Preptest 4 explanations

LR Question 25 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Sixty adults were asked to keep a diary of their meals…

QUESTION TYPE: Paradox – Exception

PARADOX: People had more calories at meals where they drank alcohol. 175 calories from non-alcoholic source plus the calories in the alcohol.

ANALYSIS: There are many possible explanations. When you see a question like this, think about it based on your own experience: when do you drink alcohol? I doubt you drink at breakfast, for example. Breakfast usually has fewer calories.

___________

  1. If you’re eating longer, you have time to eat more.
  2. This is like my breakfast example above. We eat more at dinner, and that’s when we tend to drink alcohol.
  3. We tend to drink at meals that are social events, and eat more as well.
  4. If meals are more attractively prepared and served, presumably we will feel better about eating more of the food. Packaging of a meal may also be an indication of food quality (which causes us to eat more.)
  5. CORRECT. Without knowing more about carbs, fat and proteins, this doesn’t explain much. Why do those meals have more carbs? And what effect do they have? We would need more info.

Recap: The question begins with “Sixty adults were asked to keep a diary of their meals”. It is a Paradox question. Learn how to master LSAT Paradox questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
