LR Question 6 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Lourdes: Dietary fiber is an important part of a healthful…

QUESTION TYPE: Weaken

CONCLUSION: Kyra’s conclusion is that we should cut back on fiber.

REASONING: Her reasoning is that above 20-35 grams per day, fiber hurts calcium absorption.

ANALYSIS: As with many things we need some fiber but not too much. If would help to know how much fiber we’re actually eating.

___________

  1. CORRECT. This weakens Kyra’s argument. Most Americans are already eating much less fiber than is safe and recommended.
  2. This has nothing to do with how much fiber we should eat. It only affects how much fiber we actually get from the foods we do eat.
  3. This would make it easy to eat enough (or too much fiber.) It strengthens Kyra’s argument slightly.
  4. This shows that calcium is important, and that we should therefore be concerned about fiber interfering with calcium.
  5. This shows we are likely to eat a lot of fiber, strengthening Kyra’s argument.

Recap: The question begins with “Lourdes: Dietary fiber is an important part of a healthful”. It is a Weaken question. Learn more about LSAT Weaken questions in our guide to LSAT Logical Reasoning question types.
