LSAT Preptest 122 explanations

LR Question 11 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: In the recent election, a country’s voters overwhelmingly chose…

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

PARADOX: Burke was better than Adler on most issues, and had a long, successful record in government. Adler was much better on environmental issues. Adler won.

ANALYSIS: Most strongly supported questions do not have to be 100% true.

From the information we have, it looks like Adler was elected because the environment was an important issue. That turns out to be the correct answer.

___________

  1. The stimulus only tells us about the candidates’ current environmental policy, not their past behavior.
  2. The stimulus tells us nothing about voters, except that they elected Adler by a large margin. It supports the fact that they care about the environment, but nothing more specific than that. Were they concerned about smog? natural resources? global warming? We don’t know.
  3. CORRECT. Yes. It’s the only information we have which helps explain Adler’s victory. C isn’t necessarily true (maybe Burke murdered someone on live TV), but it’s the MSS.
  4. Burke did both of these. We don’t know if Adler did either.
  5. This goes too far. We only know he had “more effective strategies … for most … problems.” Most is not all.

Recap: The question begins with “In the recent election, a country’s voters overwhelmingly chose”. It is a Most Strongly Supported question. Learn how to master LSAT MSS questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
