LSAT Preptest 5 explanations

LR Question 1 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Something must be done to ease traffic congestion…

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

FACTS: People generally people travel 20 mph below the speed limit on major highways, and all roads are congested. It’s also true that people travel further to get to work.

ANALYSIS: Basically, distance travel isn’t working so well. We should reject any proposal that causes more distance travel, and support a proposal that causes people to travel less.

___________

  1. If people can’t match the current speed limit, its doubtful they will go faster if the speed limit increases.
  2. The secondary road are already congested (like all roads.) This will just congest them further.
  3. This would make the problem worse: even more people would have to travel on congested roads.
  4. We would have to fine everyone if we adopted this proposal. A fine isn’t very useful if the people fined can’t change their behavior.
  5. CORRECT. Yes. This will cut down on how many people need to travel long distances and congest roads.

Recap: The question begins with “Something must be done to ease traffic congestion”. It is a Most Strongly Supported question. Learn how to master LSAT MSS questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
