LR Question 5 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Four randomly chosen market research companies each…

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

FACTS: The four market research companies produced similar predictions for the cities with stable population. Their estimates varied wildly for the city with a fast growing population. The market research companies were chosen randomly.

ANALYSIS: Remember that correct answers on most strongly supported questions don’t have to be 100% certain. The companies only judged three cities; our sample is very small.

Nonetheless it’s reasonably well supported that the companies are all equal for stable cities. Their estimates were very similar.

___________

  1. All of the cities were medium size so we cannot draw a conclusion on this point.
  2. We have no idea. Marketing may demand a very high level of precision.
  3. We have no idea. We don’t even have reliable estimates for the fast growing city.
  4. CORRECT. All of the companies chose roughly the same numbers for the stable cities. Therefore it is plausible to think that each company is equally reliable. (equally reliable could of course mean “not reliable at all”)
  5. We don’t even know if any of the estimates are accurate. We have no data here.

Recap: The question begins with “Four randomly chosen market research companies each”. It is a Most Strongly Supported question. Learn how to master LSAT MSS questions on the LSAT Logical Reasoning question types page.
