DISCUSSION: This is a passage about autobiographies. You’ve probably read one or two. An autobiography is usually a book where someone tells the story of their own life, chronologically. Traditional autobiographies tend to just be prose; they don’t use poetry, sketches, song, etc. 

‘Existing generic parameters’ refers to this traditional structure of autobiographies.

You can also answer this question by choosing something that the Latina authors don’t do. Since they violate traditional structures, anything Latina authors don’t do will probably fall into traditional ‘existing generic parameters’.

1. CORRECT. Traditional autobiographies are chronological. And these untraditional Latina autobiographies are not chronological (line 29).
2. A traditional autobiography would not even use other modes of presentation, such as poetry.
3. This isn’t clear. Many autobiographies are political, such as biographies written by politicians.
4. Same as B. Traditional biographies wouldn’t even use poems. If they did, they’d be separate from the main text.
5. Traditional biographies only tell personal experiences in chronological narrative. They don’t use poems, journal entries, sketches, etc.
