DISCUSSION: You’re looking for something both authors disagree about. That means each passage will have a line that shows the authors have contradictory opinions.
Don’t just go on memory. There are many answers that only one passage mentions. You can’t assume the other author disagrees unless you actually find a line where they do disagree.
___________
- Both authors agree that a flat tax system can be mildly progressive, due to the exemption of a certain amount of income.
- CORRECT. In lines 26-29, passage A says that the rich usually pay as much under a flat tax. In line 56, passage B says high income earners will pay less.
- Passage B never says that flat tax systems are impossible to put into practice. So the author of passage B doesn’t disagree with passage A, which says they can be put into practice.
- Passage B describes this answer as a common myth in the first paragraph. But passage A never discusses this answer. It appears the author of passage A has not fallen prey to this myth.
- Neither author agrees with this. Both support exemptions for some income.
