RC Question 3 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Which one of the following is most analogous to…

DISCUSSION: The Kayapo used a Western technology to document their performances. But they did not become Western in the process.

So to match this, we should look for a group that adopted something from outside the group, but did not fundamentally change.

___________

  1. This is the opposite. Video did not alter the Kayapo’s practices.
  2. CORRECT. This matches. Latin Americans adopted an outside technique (jazz), but did not abandon their traditions.
  3. The Kayapo culture did not change. This prediction of a change in the internet goes in the wrong direction.
Also, prediction had nothing to do with the Kayapo case.
  4. This answer involves adapting techniques from the past. But the Kayapo were adopting modern video techniques.
(You might have picked this because the Kayapo are preserving their culture. But preserving your current culture and adopting long abandoned techniques from the 1920s are not the same thing.)
  5. These European artists were part of Western culture. So by rejecting the conventions of Western culture they are doing the opposite of what the Kayapo did. The Kayapo upheld their cultural traditions.
