LSAT 143 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q9

LSAT Preptest 143 explanations

RC Question 9 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Which one of the following most accurately…

DISCUSSION: The second paragraph discusses the flaws in the current system. I usually re-skim the relevant paragraph before answering a question like this.

All of the wrong answers contradict the passage. Hopefully upon review A is pretty clear. If you got this one wrong you should reread the passage, because missing this question indicates a fundamental lack of comprehension of the material.

That’s harsh to write, but it’s true. It’s important to know where you’re falling short.

___________

  1. CORRECT. This describes paragraph 2. The first paragraph describes the current approach to bias. The second paragraph says what’s wrong with it.
  2. The third paragraph proposes a solution. The second paragraph doesn’t propose any new method.
  3. The first paragraph doesn’t have a single word of criticism for the current system, and it doesn’t mention any problems. Only the second paragraph mentions problems.
  4. The passage never explains the origins of current recusal rules.
  5. Nonsense. Paragraph 2 describes a problem. We don’t know yet what the thesis will be. Only paragraph 3 presents the solution to be defended.
