LSAT 148 | Section 2 | Reading Comprehension: Q25

LSAT Preptest 148 explanations

RC Question 25 Explanation

DISCUSSION: William Uttal is mentioned in paragraph 3. He thinks that all brain activity is part of a general mental process. See lines 17-21.

It’s important to note that Uttal’s views are only given in lines 17-21. So, his opinion is pretty narrow, and has to be sourced from those lines, only.

___________

  1. Lines 15-17 show that Uttal disagrees with the idea that mental processes are separated into modules.
  2. This is a trap answer. In lines 21-27, the author gives an example of how emotion and reason likely aren’t separate. But this is 1. Just an example, and 2. The author’s view.

The author agrees with Uttal, but that doesn’t mean Uttal would agree with everything the author writes.
  3. Uttal doesn’t say this. Moreover, it contradicts the passage. Lines 37-41 are clear that some processes will cause different rates of oxygen use in different parts of the brain.
  4. Uttal’s views are only given in lines 17-21. He doesn’t mention the subtractive method.
  5. CORRECT. Lines 17-21 pretty much say this directly.
