LSAT 153 | Section 4 | Reading Comprehension: Q19

LSAT Preptest 153 explanations

RC Question 19 Explanation

DISCUSSION: There’s nothing you can do upfront to predict this question. Note that there are two ways for an answer to be wrong. We’re looking for something in passage B and not in passage A. So, an answer is wrong if:

  • Passage A mentions it
  • Passage B doesn’t mention it

It’s easier to eliminate answers using the first method. It’s hard to prove something isn’t in passage B, as you can’t prove a negative. Whereas it is easier to disprove an answer by locating it in passage A or remembering it was there. You can eliminate three answers this way.

___________

  1. Passage A mentions this in the first paragraph.
  2. I don’t recall either passage mentioning this. It’s debatable whether deception even can be unintentional. Most definitions say you have to do it on purpose.
  3. Passage A mentions transparency towards the end of paragraph 2 (line 17).
  4. Passage A mentions this towards the end of paragraph 2 (line 18).
  5. CORRECT. Passage A doesn’t mention abuse of power. Passage B mentions abuse of power in the middle of paragraph 2, line 45).
