DISCUSSION: The cosmologists in question had two key beliefs:
- They believed that physical laws were finely tuned to produce life
- They believed that the only way this was possible would be if there were multiple universes (multiverses)
___________
- No. The different universes have different physical laws. It would be weird if places with different physical laws could affect our own.
- This isn’t what cosmologists argued. They instead argued from probability. If you have a billion multiverses, probably at least one will randomly have physical laws that work for life.
- This directly contradicts the cosmologists’ opinion. They argued for multiverses because multiverse have different physical laws. This is what allows multiverses the chance of producing life.
- CORRECT. Yes. See the final line of paragraph 3. It says that with a large number of possible multiverses, nature would get the right set of physical laws for life at least once.
- See the final line of paragraph 3. It says nature could get things right “at least once”. So, the cosmologists are open to the possibility of more than one multiverse containing life.
