LSAT Preptest 154 explanations

LR Question 8 Explanation

QUESTION TEXT: Advertisement: At BigFoods, we compare prices for for you…

QUESTION TYPE: Most Strongly Supported

FACTS:

  1. The regularly purchased grocery items at Grocerytown cost 10% more than at BigFoods.
  2. BigFood’s items weren’t even on sale for this comparison.

ANALYSIS: MSS questions are basically asking for inferences. What can we infer from this stimulus? We’re given information about “regularly purchased items”, a subset within all the grocery items at BigFoods and Grocerytown. In other words, we are given information about SOME of the grocery items at these stores.

Now we can make a prephrase: we can say that some of the products are cheaper at BigFoods than at Grocerytown.

___________

  1. We don’t know if this happened.
  2. We also can’t infer anything about the preferences of the shoppers.
  3. CORRECT. This matches our prephrase exactly.
  4. We don’t know if the BigFoods items were on sale at the time of the comparison.
  5. We can’t know this from what we’re given in the stimulus.

Recap: The question begins with “Advertisement: At BigFoods, we compare prices for for you”. It is a Most Strongly Supported question. Learn more about LSAT MSS questions in our guide to LSAT Logical Reasoning question types.
