LSAT 158 | Section 1 | Reading Comprehension: Q10

LSAT Preptest 158 explanations

RC Question 10 Explanation

DISCUSSION: This question references a specific sentence and asks you to find the function of the sentence. In the context of this paragraph, this sentence is used to highlight a key difference between the trickster and the picaro. The picaro’s flaws highlighted the flaws in a corrupt society, whereas the tricker’s flaws are his own flaws, and should be avoided.

___________

  1. The first sentence of the passage mentions that the trickster is a comic figure with supernatural powers, but the sentence in question doesn’t mention nor reference this at all.
  2. Quite the opposite. The sentence is talking about differences. It clearly says the trickster is not a foil to a corrupt society, drawing a contrast from the picaro, who is.
  3. CORRECT. The sentence in question tells us that unlike a picaro, a trickster’s flaws are his own, and don’t function as foils to a corrupt society.
  4. The sentence doesn’t mention social commentary at all. Eliminate.
  5. “Anarchic” is mentioned later in the paragraph, but is unrelated to the use of the sentence. The purpose of the sentence in question was contrast.
